Crack & Spalling Repair: Be Vigilant and Avoid Unnecessary Concrete Damage
Cracking or spalling concrete is can occur for any number of reasons, but it’s important to note that these situations require immediate attention. Spalling may indicate moisture penetration of steel reinforcement, which may lead to corrosion if left untreated. CCS offers onsite inspections at the first sign of deterioration and offer repair solutions to prevent corrosion and maintain your facility’s structural integrity.
Causes of concrete cracking and spalling may include:
-
- Moisture migration through the concrete into the steel reinforcement
- Lack of steel reinforcement
- Limited concrete coverage of steel reinforcement
- Drying shrinkage, common cure cracking
- Thermal expansion
- Increased applied load of grain silos
“We are glad we were introduced to CCS. It has proven to be a positive move. Prior to our association, we didn’t have reliable sources to repair problem areas on our silos. With the repairs they performed, our silos will be good for another 40 years. Thanks to all of you at CCS.” Jackie Seibert ~ United Equity, Inc., Delphos, OH
